Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialized department that provides diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for diseases, injuries, and deformities affecting the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, teeth, and jaw across all age groups. The scope of practice includes:
Routine and surgical tooth extractions
Impacted tooth removal
Dental and zygomatic implant placement
Diagnosis and treatment of jaw cysts and tumors
Preprosthetic surgical procedures
Sinus floor elevation
Bone augmentation techniques
Diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up of traumatic dental and periodontal injuries
Conservative and surgical treatment of jaw fractures
Orthognathic surgery
Management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
In addition to healthy individuals, the department also provides examination, treatment, and follow-up services for patients with special care needs, including those with chronic systemic conditions or physical and/or intellectual disabilities.
Initial examinations and treatment planning for patients visiting the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics are conducted by specialist physicians in the department. Postgraduate dental students also participate in providing examination and treatment services under supervision.
If additional imaging is required for diagnosis, patients are referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology for appropriate radiographic evaluation. Once the treatment plan is finalized, appointments are scheduled for the necessary procedures.
For patients who are unable to cooperate due to physical or mental disabilities, dental phobia, or specific syndromes, treatments are performed under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia in our hospital’s outpatient operating theatre. These procedures are carried out in surgical conditions by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in collaboration with an anesthesiologist.
Following treatment, patients are scheduled for follow-up sessions at intervals determined by their physician, ensuring long-term monitoring and care tailored to individual needs.
